So Far Away
Gus glanced at his surroundings, everything foreign to him. He didn't recognize where he was at and he was quick to admit that he was scared to death. Something just wasn't right, and there was a distinct emotion that hung in the air. He couldn't place it, not yet, but in the small hallway he was in, with what seemed like countless doors ahead of him and behind. All at once the doors simultaneously opened with a loud bang as the all hit the walls together. Dread. That was the emotion he had felt just before hand, and it was well warranted. The hairs on the back of his neck stood up, and before he could prepare himself, noise flooded out of the doors. He flinched at all of it happening at once. He didn't put it together, at first, but it registered that they were voices. Tons of them, too many of them. The sound resounded in between his ears, and he squinted his eyes shut, his paws automatically covering his ears in a useless attempt to drown out the painful noise. He gritted his teeth, his knees shaking, once he realized the sound didn't let up. A moment later, the sound grew louder and he blinked his eyes groaning out; finding it all overwhelming and hard to take. He wasn't aware that he was actually screaming out, and screaming it all to stop. That he just couldn't handle it anymore. But it didn't stop, and all the noise was starting to make his head pound, over and over. He fell to his knees, barely noticing that there wasn't even anyone around to create the voices that he could hear. It even drowned out the beating of his own heart. There was nothing but the voices.
Deuteronomy, shifted in bed, but felt alert, felt as though something was deeply wrong. He had actually been sleeping a lot better since he and Gus started to spend their nights together. Sometimes in his den and sometimes in Gus' den. A distant voice was gasping out. In his sleep induced haze, he only caught bits. 'Stop....Be silent...Too much...Too many.....Can't....breathe...'
Alarmed at what he was hearing, he sat in bed slowly, and it all finally clicked. Gus was shivering in bed beside him, muttering in his sleep. But it was worse then that, he noticed Gus was having a hard time breathing, and immediately rolled out of bed. Walking to Gus' side he started shaking the tom.
"Gus! Gus, wake up."
Gus bolted upright in bed, scared, and still breathing too fast, and not inhaling enough air. "Wha-? No!"
"Gus! Gus look at me, it was a dream. Come on, look at me." He searched Gus' eyes.
The tabby tom did search around frantically, his paws on his head, over his ears. But he snapped his head towards Deuteronomy, his eyes wide. He tried to take in a shuddering breath but it didn't work and he tried again. He blinked the tears from his eyes, his paw immediately gripping at his chest. "C-c...can't...breathe." Was all he managed to say.
Deut frowned,"Gus, you're just having a panic attack." He scooted Gus to sit on the edge of his bed. "Put your head between your knees. Good." He ran his paw through Gus' hair. "Just focus on me, on my voice. Deep breaths."
Gus body was still shivering, but concentrating on Deut and only seeing the floor helped him to relax, slightly. Taking in a few deep breaths, he felt calmer, knowing his breathing was starting to even out.
With unsure, shaky movement, Gus sat back up, looking at Deuteronomy. He gave Deuteronomy a small smile. "I think...I'm okay now."
Deuteronomy shook his head, standing up. "You just had a panic attack. I'm going to take you to Jenny's. I'll let her tell me if you're okay. Even if you are better, I still believe she needs to be informed."
Gus didn't want to argue with Deuteronomy, the sound of going to the infirmary and being treated by Jenny was definitely welcome. He took Deut's offered paw. "What...time is it, Deut?"
Deuteronomy shrugged,"Pretty late." He held Gus close to him, as he headed out of the den. "You...you really scared me, Gus."
"Sorry."
"Don't be." Nuzzling Gus' cheek, the two older toms headed out into the cold night air.

Softly, the black queen placed a slender paw on her forehead. A part of her had wanted to stay in the warm building she had been taking shelter in for the past few months. It was still very cold outside but she felt odd, felt like she had to leave. Wrapping her tail long black tails around her body, she squinted out through a crack in the barred up window. There was still some snow on the ground, but most of it had melted away. The landscape was filled with white patches, between dead grass, cement, and roadways. Her green eyes sparkled as the sun slowly began to rise in the distance. There was something driving her to continue on her journey and both scared and curious at what she'd find at the end, she stood up. Her arms were wrapped around her body, bracing herself for the cold wind to rush at her as soon as she left the abandoned building. As she feared, her body shivered as soon as she stepped outside. She wasn't exactly sure where she was headed, but knew she'd find out eventually. A solemn look was across her features as she continued walking. Her thoughts going back to disturbing thoughts. Thoughts she didn't want, but they were there anyway. She wondered if it was them, the voices, that were leading her somewhere. She couldn't afford to think about that, and kept going. It wasn't long before a large enclosed area appeared on the horizon. From that distance, she couldn't make out exactly what it was, but somehow, she knew. That was were she wad going, where she was meant to go. She called it fate, while others called it a 'coincidence'.
At the junkyard, Tantomile bounded up to Admetus, a bright smile on her face. He nodded, spoke a quiet hello, before going about his business. Bouncing up now, in front of him, she waved.
"Don't be so shy, Adme. It's only me. Soooo anything new, anything interesting?"
Admetus shook his head, seemingly un-phased by her actions. "I don't need to ask why you're so giddy."
Tantomile grinned, so he had heard. Oh she knew it would last maybe a month, maybe more maybe less, but she was just so ecstatic to be with Tugger. He really knew what he was doing, and he was so incredibly charming. Any queen who didn't find him attractive had to be dead on the inside. Oh she knew there were a few queens who didn't like Tugger personally. Noilly was one of them, she was appalled by the way he treats queens as street hookers instead of treating them with love and respect and proper courting. But, Noilly did admit that physically, he was appealing to look at. "He's a hunk, but I didn't mean to imply I was asking about your personal life. You're too private for me to rudely barge into it. I meant, anything new...out there. Around the yard."
He raised his eyebrow,"You tell me. You're the one with sight."
Tantomile flexed her foot out in front of her, and she brought it up to her side, before lowering it. Stretching out above her head, she shrugged. "Rumpus was the one who told me he felt a powerful mystic approaching the yard."
"Where is Rumpus?"
"Think he's still sulking over becoming a watcher." She stuck her tongue out playfully. "But he'll get over it. I think he's actually starting to enjoy it, and just doesn't want to admit it."
Shushing her, he guided her behind him. Despite being with Tugger, she found she liked the protectiveness Admetus showed her. Yes, Tugger was fun, but she was determined to be with a tom who would be protective over her as well as fun. Tugger just didn't seem the type, maybe he would be one day, but he was a long ways off. She didn't need to ask if Admetus had heard something. Finally, a two-tailed, all black queen entered the yard cautiously. The first thing she caught sight of was Admetus, looking a bit intimidating, and a inquisitive Tantomile behind him. Seeing, and feeling the tom was merely trying to protect the queen she relaxed a little.
"Oh..." She bit her bottom lip,"I didn't know there were others here."
Tantomile swatted away Admetus' protective arm, and grinned walking up to her without any hesitation. "You must not be from around here, though we've been getting a lot of strays off the streets who don't seem to know much about us. Or believed we were a myth." Grinning, she slid an arm around the black queen who slid out of reach. "You're one of those." Was her comment about the ones who were 'silent', or 'shy'.
Admetus saw her uncomfortableness, and gave her a small smile. "We don't bite. I'm Admetus."
She still hesitated, keeping her eyes on the bubbly Tantomile,"Krys...Krystalle."
"Pleasure, this...loud-mouth," He noticed Tantomile smirk and wave, not even denying it,"Is Tantomile. You're currently in the junkyard, in the Jellicle Tribe."
Krystalle gazed the setting of the yard, from what she could see of the small corner she was in at the moment. She definitely felt something there, and she just couldn't leave without knowing what it was. "I...don't wish to impose." She fidgeted. "But would it be alright if I stayed here a few days?"
She didn't want to tell them the real reason, having had no prior contact to other mystic cats, and was pretty sure they'd think she was nuts. Tantomile nodded her head enthusiastically. "The more the merrier. Hey, Adme, I'm off to meet up with Tugger at the infirmary. Don't ask me why he's there." She shrugged. "You are okay with her? Oh sure you are, you're both silent and awkward, you'll get along just fine."
Giggling, she left the two alone. Admetus didn't move to touch her but did gesture 'Queens first'. "I can take too long, I'm on duty, but I can show you around if you like."
"I'd like that."
~^*^~
Deuteronomy sat by the bedside of Gus. Gus had finally fallen back asleep, in one of the beds of the infirmary. Deuteronomy had apologized to Jennyanydots for waking her up so late at night, but she was glad to do it. He stared down at Gus peacefully sleeping, and warm cloth over his forehead. Reaching down, he brushed some of Gus hair off of his face. Deut didn't have the heart to ask him what his dream had been about, the tom needed sleep before he could tell Deut what it was about. He hoped it was just that, a dream, but knowing of Gus' visions, he feared that what he experienced with Gus that night had been Gus having a vision. A frightening one at that.
"Where's Jenny?" Tugger's voice suddenly came from behind him.
Deut quickly removed his paw from Gus' face. "Sorry, Tugger. She stepped out for a few. She's sure to be back in a bit. If it's urgent, you should stick around."
Tugger nodded his head, pacing a bit in place. It was desperately urgent. Still, with Deut and Gus in the same room, he surmised a little distraction would be good. "How is he?"
Deuteronomy sighed, as he leaned back, stretching his back. "Much better. He suffered a panic attack earlier. Jenny said it could have been much worse, so there's that bit of silver lining."
Tugger fiddled with his vest, and tilted his head. Studying both older toms. Grinning, shamelessly, he spoke. "Does he know?"
"About the panic attack? Of course."
"No no...that you love him."
"I beg your pardon." Deuteronomy was now completely focused on Tugger. "He is a good, old friend, Tugger." He shook his head,"The places that mind of yours goes to sometimes. I wonder."
Tugger put a paw on Old Deuteronomy's shoulder, giving him a hard look. "Lie out loud if you want Leader, but I'm somewhat of an expert in this department. You and him have always been close, but I've noticed you spending a lot of your time with him. I'm not dumb, I know when two jellicles are dating, and I know when a jellicle is in love. You just can't hide that from me."
Deut let out a flustered breath of hot air. "If it's that easy to see...Does everybody know?"
Tugger shook his head,"Nah, not a clue. Just me. But, you haven't answered my question."
"He knows I have feelings for him."
"That's not the same thing, Leader. What are you worried about?"
"I'm the Jellicle Leader. Same sex pairs...they're more accepted now, but I'm their leader, I need to set an example."
"And what better example then being with someone you love, openly? It doesn't matter that Gus is the same gender, Old Deuteronomy. Just showing the rest that even, no offense, at your age it's possible to find love and be happy would benefit the tribe I think. Personally, you've been alone too long now. I think it's great you've moved on, and you're happy. You're happy right?"
"Of course I am."
"Good..." Tugger cocked his head, letting it sink in. He doubt it would right away, but he wondered if he had helped Deut at all. He saw a smile grace the leader's lips and he leaned over and placed a small kiss on Gus' lips. It was enough for Gus to flutter his eyes open, he sleepily reached out for Deut and Deut closed his paw around Gus' paw. Gus started to drift back to sleep, and Tugger could see how freeing it had been for Deut to show affection to Gus. Even if it was only in front of one Jellicle.
--- ---
"Oh thank you Jenny. I don't know what I would do without you." Both Demeter and Jenny had walked back into the infirmary. "Anything to help."
"Jenny!" Came Tugger's voice from a back room.
Once he came out of it, Jenny saw how angry Tugger was. She knew he wasn't faking it either. Normally, when he faked it, his eye would twitch once or twice-it did that because he was trying to fight a smile from spreading out across his face. There were a lot of small things like that, that she knew about Tugger. Maybe she knew him too well. He knew her too well, too. She; they weren't suppose to be emotionally involved and she was beginning to think she already was. They knew things about each other that only mates ever took the time to find out. Demeter was surprised to see Tugger angry. She had really only ever saw him with a charming smile on his face. Demeter had started to leave, but halted when she heard Tugger speak.
"You being knocked up. Is it true?" When Jenny didn't answer him right away, he continued. "I mean, last month there was a rumor going around about it, and now Jellicles have seen you getting objects out as if you're getting ready for a baby to arrive. You've even confirmed to others that you're pregnant. I mean gees Jenny. What the hell am I suppose to think?"
"If you already know I've confirmed it with others, then why are you here asking me?"
"Because," Tugger emphasized,"I want to hear it from you."
"Jenny-"
She raised up her paw, silencing Demeter,"It's okay Demeter. Yes Tugger, it's true."
He growled out, running a paw through his hair, on the verge of a nervous breakdown. "I don't even need to ask if it's mine. You haven't been intimate with anyone else for almost two months now."
Jenny narrowed her eyes, finding nothing amusing about this situation like she had a month ago when they were messing with Panthera and the other queens. "Is that all...or did you actually come here to talk this over as adults?"
Tugger matched her glare,"I can't be a father, I don't want it. I'm not ready to become a parent. I...How's that for an adult input?"
Jenny felt a little sad, even though she knew Tugger would probably react that way. "I don't think anyone is ready to become a parent when it first happens. And that was suppose to be an adult suggestion?" She shook her head, this was not a civil adult conversation. "So what, Tugger? Do you want me to abort it? Get rid of it?"
"Yes."
"Just like that...huh? What the hell is-"
"STOP...okay just stop." Demeter's tail sponged at the tip and her head was hung low. "Jenny's not pregnant. I am. It's me."
Tugger stopped, staring at Demeter then back to Jenny confused. "What?"
"I haven't...Aside from Jemima and Jenny, I didn't want anyone to find out. Not yet. But...a few jellicles saw Jenny carrying some things to help me get ready for my baby, and ..."
"To keep Demeter's secret, I told them I was the one pregnant."
Demeter was still looking down, upset over what Jenny did for her was only causing Jenny problems.
"So..." Tugger sighed,"You're not pregnant?"
Jenny shook her head,"No."
"Oh..." He gave another confused glance at Demeter. "You...were just...covering for Demeter."
"I was helping a friend. She wanted to tell the father before someone else did."
Though, Jenny frowned looking to Demeter. Demeter stopped and listened to Tugger's reaction to Jenny being pregnant. She couldn't help wondering if Demeter thought the tom would react in much the same way.
"Sorry." Tugger finally said,"For...well getting mad. Of course you were just helping out a friend, that's what you do, and if you were really pregnant, I know...should have known you would have come to me first."
Gazing into Tugger's eyes, searching for something, she didn't know what, she shrugged. "I understand why you were upset...but it's good to know where you stand on the whole baby thing, if heavyside forbid, I did get pregnant."
Tugger rolled his eyes,"Don't be like that Jenny."
"I think this needs to stop."
There was a pause from everybody, and Tugger finally got what she meant and smiled easily. "I couldn't agree more. Misunderstandings are so unattractive."
He bent over to kiss her on the cheek but at the sound of her 'No', he pulled back. A knock on the door, was vaguely heard, but the two cats were too focused on each other to see who it was. Demeter acknowledged Tantomile before her eyes were back on Jenny.
"That's not what I meant. This...arrangement, it needs to end. Now."
Another silence fell between them, and finally Tugger smiled. "Yeah. Had to end sometime right, that's what we agreed on. It's been fun, for the most part."
He started to give her a goodbye kiss, but knew the way Jenny was staring at him. Heknew the emotion behind those eyes, something perhaps he shouldn't know about Jenny if he was truly detached and he agreed. Silently. It was time to end things, to move on. He stole a glance at Demeter to say goodbye, but noticed Tantomile there. Wickedly, he gestured towards her, and she was instantly at his side, bundling her up in his arms.
"Come on Tantomile, let's go. See ya girls."
Tantomile and Tugger left the infirmary, and once they did, she sensed something different about Tugger. Holding his paw, she asked. "You okay Tugger?"
He gave a half smile,"Why wouldn't I be?" He caressed the side of her cheek, and any more doubt Tantomile had left her.
Back in the infirmary, Demeter wasn't sure if she should say anything. Seeing Jenny sigh, shake her head and sit down, Demeter walked closer to Jenny. That's when it dawned on her, that perhaps Jenny had fallen for Tugger after all, the very thing she didn't want to do. Putting an arm around Jenny she drew Jenny into a hug.
"I'm sorry. Will...you be okay?"
The hug was returned, but Jenny only shrugged,"I don't know what you're talking about, I AM okay. It's better this way. Heavyside, could you imagine what would have happened if Tugger did get me pregnant? It would have completely ruined any future friendship we might have. I don't want to become bitter towards him or any other tom, not like Bomba...no offense."
Demeter nodded her head,"Bomba is a bit bitter towards Tugger. So I understand."
Jenny held Demeter,"Enough about all that. Are you up for it...today?"
"After that!? I don't think so."
"He's not going to freak out like Tugger did. Tugger...is Tugger, babies and commitment scare him. He won't freak out on you Demeter, and if he does, you have a little sister who has been extremely supportive of you. She rarely leaves your side. I'm...actually surprised she's not with you now."
"I told her to go play with her friends today. If I am going to talk to Rumpus...I want to do it alone."
"Alright, but I think you should do it soon. If not today then tomorrow. You're going to start showing soon, and that is not something I can help you hide. Well...I could, but it'd be obvious that you were hiding, something."
Demeter smiled, softly at that. Jenny was stroking the top of her paw and she bit her lip nodding her head. "Jenny...will...there be any problems with my baby, or me?"
"You're 21, Demeter. You'll be fine, any less and there could be a problem. But you'll be fine. You can come to my den about any questions or concerns, any time."
"Thanks." She took in a nervous breath, deciding to tell him that night.
~^*^~
Munkustrap leaned over and Bomba met him half way, and the two kissed. The two were in the city, Bomba wasn't sure where the silver tabby had taken her, as it was a surprise, but it was really something. They were in a pretty secluded part of the city, and Munkustrap had really gone to great lengths to make it look absolutely perfect. There was a place for the two of them to sit, cuddle even, and another place off to the side; all set up for a nice romantic dinner. The two had eaten already and Munkustrap was holding her paw across the 'table', staring into Bomba's eyes. Now Bomba had always known Munkustrap was a bit of a romantic at heart, but she hadn't been prepared for such an amazing night. Perhaps, George had been right all those months ago. She still liked and wanted Tugger, a part of her probably always would. But there were more toms out there for her, ones like Munkustrap who actually treated her like a Queen, and not a fine looking figure to lay in bed with once or twice. Purring, she twirled her tail around the tip of his and stood up. Following after her they both went over to sit on the small chair. It had been a small chair for a human, but it was big enough for the two of them to spread out, if they wanted to. It was evening, and the sun was still in the sky, but a few hours, tops, and the sun would be starting to set. Bomba planned to stay with Munk till the sun set, it would be the perfect ending to such a perfect day. As soon as he sat down beside her, and cuddled close to her, she buried her head in the crook of his neck. Inhaling deeply, she spread her paw over his chest and wrapped it around his side.
"Mmm...Munk." She spoke quietly. "I don't think I want to ever leave."
He grinned kissing the top of her head. "So you want to grow old and die, wrapped in my arms."
She chuckled low under her breath,"Doesn't sound like such a bad thing, right?"
"No." He paused, then added,"Though I think starvation would come first, before growing old."
Raising her head up she winked at him cupping his cheek with her paw. "Always wanted to die young anyway."
Twisting some of her hair around his finger he brought her face closer to his. "Hope you're just joking."
All she did was grin and then kissed him. It had been three months, three, since they started dating. And in that one moment, in that one kiss, she had a revelation. She never wanted this to end. She was falling in love with him, she didn't know it would ever come to that when she first started dating him. And she'd be lying if she couldn't see it. She could see being with him until they were both old and senile. She could see a few kittens with both of their coloring running about the yard playing with other kittens. And in that one little, kiss, one kiss that was the same as all their other shared kisses. She wanted that. Pulling away, she noticed he was staring at her.
"Bomby....what are you thinking about? You...seemed kind of distracted just a second ago." Three months, Munk sure hoped she wasn't already getting bored with him. And it couldn't be the kiss, because he didn't kiss that poorly.
"It's nothing. Just thinking about us, stud." She kissed him once again in reassurance.
"But you're okay."
"No, I'm better."
~^*^~
Frowning, Demeter started to retreat from his den. She had walked all the way to Rumpus den, and she knew he was in there, she could hear noise coming from inside. Still, her paws were shaking and she just didn't know if this was going to turn horribly wrong. On the one paw, she knew she'd have to tell him, and aside from being scared of how he'll react, she felt sort of guilty. Rumpus was doing great, just going about his life, and she was going to pop into and drop a bomb on his head. This wasn't just going to affect her, and she was quickly coming to this realization. Turning away she shook her head, she couldn't do this. Maybe she had been wrong, maybe she should have asked Jemima to be with her when she did this, or Jenny. Definitely not Bomba, which brought her to another issue she was dreading. Bomba was going to tear her and Rumpus to shreds. No. No she had to talk to him. Turning around again, she started walking back to his den. She was not going to let him hear through someone else, or through Panthera; of all Jellilcles. Demeter couldn't do that to him. Raising up a hesitant paw, she stood there with her paw near his door. Then once she was sure she knew what she was going to say-quick to the point/blunt-she knocked on his den.
He answered it, not too surprised when he saw Demeter there, due to his gift, one he had started to use more freely. "Howdy Demeter. Come in. Want something to drink...or eat?"
"No I'm...not hungry."
She entered his den, seeing the inside for the first time. She wasn't sure where he got the pictures from. Perhaps he knew a cat on the streets who could draw, but there were pictures of cats on his walls. Catching her staring at them, he shrugged. "Guess you could call them my street family. They're of each cat who has had an impact on me....or that I helped on the streets."
"Do you still keep tabs on all of them?"
"Yeah, most."
"What about these...they're separated from the group." She pointed to a few, piled up on the floor, off to the side.
He sighed,"They're the ones where I was too late to save them. I just...didn't want them to be forgotten."
She gave him a sad smile. "I never knew...that about you."
He sighed out, covering up any sadness with nervous chuckling. "I'm sure you didn't come here to talk about the faces on my walls. But...Well I am glad you're here."
"You are?"
"Yeah. I know that one night, and morning, we put it past us. But we haven't really had a chance to talk since then."
"I've been...distracted."
Rumpus nodded,"I knew it would end up making things awkward between us, and I like you Demeter. That was the last thing I -"
"I'm pregnant."
He did a double take, then made what Demeter could only classify as a keening grumble. She heard him sigh, 'oh', before he looked directly at her. What she didn't expect was Rumpus to take a few steps toward her, and smile.
"How far along?"
Confused by his reaction, she stuttered. "Shouldn't you be...yelling at me? Or...or freaking out!?"
"It's a surprise, sure....but I wouldn't yell at you. You're pregnant for heavyside sake. If anything you'll need my support, and you have it. We can become mates, or wait till after the babies born if you want."
"Mates...Woah, what? I...I don't want to mate with you."
Rumpus gave her a calm look,"Why?"
"Well, I don't love you for starters. And you don't love me, don't even pretend you do."
"I wasn't going to. Though whose to say we wouldn't eventually fall in love down the road." He shook his head at her look,"I didn't mean to offend you or anything. And if you don't want to become mates..." To be a family, he didn't say it, but it was there,"Then I respect that."
Her paws curled and uncurled, and her eyes downcasted. Nervousness was setting in again. This was definitely not what she expected, but things could have been so much worse. So she counted her blessings, this being one of them. "Thanks."
"So...You're about two months pregnant, right?" He nodded, before she could respond. That had been about the time they had slept together. "May I?"
At her approval, he placed his paw on her stomach, a smirk on his face. She wasn't showing yet, so he didn't expect any movement, but just knowing that there was a little life growing in there, that they were going to bring into the world, made him smile.
"I don't think you're incapable Demeter." His voice was a hushed whisper, but she could hear it, clear as day. "But I want to be there for you, for both of you. I can, and want to help."
Feeling weak, though maybe it was just a swirl of emotions, and the ease of her nervousness washing away, but she closed the rest of the distance between them, and melted when he embraced her. It was such a small gesture, a protective one, but in those arms Demeter felt more peaceful. Like she could actually handle all this now.
"I just... I don't want to do this alone."
He softly stroked her back, a soft purr coming from deep within his throat. "You're not alone. If you want, until you deliver, I can move into the den beside yours, so if anything should happen or you need me for anything, I'll be just a den over."
Demeter snorted at that idea, if he would go through all that trouble. She stiffened. "If you would go through all that trouble to move into the den beside mine, you might as well just stay in my den."
His ears flicked and his eyes peered down at Demeter. "I wouldn't want to impose, but if that was an offer and you think that would be the most helpful solution, then I'll do it. Will sleep in the main room, but you need help you just shout for me."
A thought struck her, and she knew she was being selfish, and petty. Especially after turning down his offer to become mates, but thinking about him living with her during her pregnancy and bringing back a date...while she had his baby in her stomach. Well it made her sick. "I don't want you to date, if we do this. I just...you moving in....and the thought of you going on a date..."
"Shhh...shh. Okay."
"Just...Okay? Just like that?"
"Yes, Demeter. You're carrying my baby...our baby. I wouldn't dream of dating anyone else. I promise. During your pregnancy, I'll be there for you one hundred percent. You have my word."
She pouted, or more precisely resisted pouting and lost. He saw the tears forming in the corner of her eyes, as she locked eyes with his. "I just...I'm so scared that I can't...do this."
Kissing the top of her forehead, he kept her in a loving embrace. "We can do this. Don't doubt it, not for a second, and in a few months time you're going to be a mother. I'll be a father. And if you're scared, that's okay. I'm a bit scared myself."
Seeing the sincerity in his eyes, she stopped looking up at him and buried her face in his chest. She wrapped her arms around his waist. This wasn't how she planned it at all. When she was younger she had always planned that her prince charming would swoop in and take her breath away. They'd fall in love and start a family. Though, she wasn't having a baby with a tom she loved, out of all the Jellicles, she was glad it was a tom like Rumpus. One who took responsibility for his actions. Rumpus said he was going to be there for her every step of the way, and she believed him.

~^*^~
