An Evening for New Beginnings
The warm breeze felt good on the tiger tabbies face. Having just given the Hexes a new shipment of food, supplies, and even weapons; the breeze was a welcome change to the enclosed suffocating space inside Macavity's territory. Mungojerrie had also come from a disturbing conversation with his father. If one could call him that. Mungojerrie never called him that and didn't think Macavity would ever deserve that title. Yet, he couldn't help but to look up to him as a parental figure, Macavity was the only one he had. Quickly, he snapped out of the thoughts of his father. Looking around him at all the cats who were now slowly surrounding him. He gazed about, seeing only one cat that he recognized, Growltiger. The Hex warrior stood apart from the other cats. He knew Growltiger wasn't all that fond of him, but there was never any bad blood between them. Glaring about at the others, Mungojerrie bared his teeth.
"Wha's goin' on 'ere? Le' meh pass."
"He wants us to give him a free pass guys." There was some laughter, though he did notice a silver tabby standing about. He and Growltiger were the only two who weren't laughing.
"You want to pass? Well there's a price to pay."
Mungojerrie stiffened at the words. None of these toms, except maybe for Growltiger knew who he was, or more importantly who his father was. Macavity wouldn't acknowledge him as a legitimate son, Jerrie knew this. But the ginger tom still punished those who had dared to touch him in the past. He frowned, wondering what was in store for them once Macavity learned what they were about to do. He also took an involuntary step backwards. For no matter what Macavity would do as punishment, he was still far away and wasn't about to come to his rescue. He was outnumbered, six to one. Five if the Hex near Growltiger didn't jump in as well. He was crafty, but there was no way he could get through all five or six of them.
"Grumbuskin, look at the scared tom. Move out that way, make sure he doesn't get away."
So that was the silver tabby's name.
"No." Grumbuskin spoke. "We came out for training, Xeltic. Pounding on some random tom, is pointless."
"Don't be stupid."
Jerrie started taking another step backwards and looking for a safe route around them so he wouldn't be forced into a physical fight. However, two others moved around behind him, there were two on either side of him and Xeltic in front of him. He was completely surrounded. He vaguely heard Growltiger snarl under his breath,"You punks need to listen to Grumbuskin. This is utterly pointless. Let's get back to your training."
"Don't think so old man." Xeltic hissed and then charged at Jerrie.
Mungojerrie was surprised by how fast it took the brainless Hexes to attack and found himself stumbling backwards from the punch that connected with his jaw. The two Hexes behind him grabbed his two arms and held him still. He fought in the grip, but the two on his sides added their weight and he couldn't fling himself free of the four that now secured him. Xeltic came at him again, and having no way to defend himself, Jerrie gritted his teeth and endured the pain inflicted on him. Grunts and groans of pain flew out of his mouth but it didn't stop him from hearing the absolute glee that Xeltic seemed to be in. A fist came flying at Xeltic and the tom staggered backwards, more so in shock. His eyes looked over to Grumbuskin, who was backed up by Growltiger. The other four holding Jerrie didn't even bat an eye when they began to punch, swipe, slash and kick at Jerrie. With a roar Growltiger launched at the four nameless Hexes and after a sort fight, Growltiger and Grumbuskin were left standing. The other four were rolling on the ground in pain, Xeltic sat nursing a broken nose, and Mungojerrie found himself free of the other bodies. He fell to his knees reflexively holding on to his stomach, protecting himself from the damage done. He peered up at Growltiger and Grumbuskin who were now standing over him.
"Absolutely terrible." Growltiger boasted after having just bested the four twerps with ease. "Macavity wants loyal and strong warriors, ones that are also smart. What use could he possible have for mindless Hexes who do nothing but waste their skills and energy on unnecessary fights. Pathetic. Only one of you lot is smart."
Turning to Grumbuskin he gave the muscular tom a smirk. "I think you'll become a fine ally and an incredible Warrior."
Grumbuskin gave him a look,"You think so?"
"You'll still need to pass the training and tests and meet with Macavity's approval, but out of the six of you, you're the only one who shows any potential. Now get these whelps back on their feet and out of my sight."
"Er, yes sir." Grumbuskin helped the four onto their feet then bent down to help out Xeltic who growled at the smirking silver tabby. Xeltic and Grumbuskin, along with the other four made their way out of sight. Jerrie found himself being helped to his feet and steadied by Growltiger.
"Sorry about that youngster." Despite his ill feelings for Growltiger, Jerrie found himself leaning into the older toms touch and support.
Jerrie shrugged,"Some of 'em 'ave no brains, Oi get tha'. An yah did try tah stop 'em."
"Not in time. There will be consequences for them, I'll see to that myself. Can you make it back to the junkyard on your own?"
"Ya. Oi don' think the Jellicles would beh too 'appy if Oi showed up wi'h yah at mah side. Thanks though."
Growltiger patted Jerrie's shoulder, gave the tom one more look over then nodded his head and stepped away. Jerrie took a few minutes to get passed the ache in his body, and then began to head to the junkyard. It was slow and lethargic, but once he was close enough to the yard he heard familiar voices. Quaxo and Rumpleteazer had just come back from scouting together, when they saw him dragging his feet. Teazer easily looped her arm around Jerrie's waist and he placed his arm around her neck, leaning into her, a smile on his face. He had missed her, and it was obvious to Quaxo. He tried to keep himself from jumping to conclusions though.
"Gosh Mungojerrie, what happened to you?"
"Fight." Was his reply, and he rested his head in the crook of Teazer's neck.
"A fight? Jer? Wha' happened, are yah okay?"
He nuzzled her neck and made a pained face when the two directed him into the junkyard. "Oh ya. Jus ah little pain, Oi'll be okay, Teaze."
"Jus as well. Oi'm takin' yah tah mah sistah. Quacks, can yah help meh get 'im to Jenny's?"
"Of course Teazer." He walked alongside Jerrie, helping the tom on the opposite side of Teazer, but he did notice how Jerrie barely acknowledged his help, the tom practically all over Teazer. He really didn't want to be jealous, Mungojerrie did look like he had been through a rough afternoon.
He felt increasingly awkward, as though he were a third wheel, the longer it took them to get to the infirmary. He heard Teazer and Jerrie murmuring to themselves, low enough that he couldn't make out their words, but high enough to know they were engaged in a secret conversation. He bit back a sigh at the feelings that brought him, and tried to focus on the fact that the jellicle ball was that night and that Teazer had wanted to go with him, not with Mungojerrie. Quaxo, Teazer and Jerrie entered the infirmary; the two tigers hugging as though they had never been apart the last few months. Quaxo frowned then slightly, seeing how close the two were acting. He knew how badly Mungojerrie's betrayal had affected Rumpleteazer. Quaxo didn't know exactly what Jerrie had done or said to her, it wasn't his business. The young tuxedo tom, though, had conflicting feelings about all this. Jealousy was high on his list, with Jerrie back in her life he assumed he was going to be pushed aside and it looked that way right then and there. He sighed and the two stared at him, perhaps telling Teazer now would have been useless. Teazer had confided in him that she had always had feelings for Jerrie and despite the hurt she felt by him, she still liked him. He admitted that he was also scared for Teazer. Having Jerrie back in her life, put her back into a vulnerable position. It was so easy for Jerrie to hurt her before and he just didn't want her to be hurt yet again. He couldn't control that though and he knew how tough she was. He knew, also that he had no right or power to come between the friends. All he could do was hope for the best.
"See somethin' yah loike?" Mungojerrie asked, once he couldn't stand Quaxo's eyes on him any longer.
Realizing that he had been staring, he averted his eyes and his face flushed. Teazer just about died, laughing at Quaxo's embarrassment. Ignoring them, he turned to Jenny, Teazer's older sister. He never understood why Teazer had a heavier accent then her sister, but he figured she started picking it up once she became friends with Mungojerrie. She was obviously concentrating very hard to assess Jerrie's injuries, but the healer never could keep her normal mask where Teazer was concerned. Her mouth was curled into a smirk and her jaw was tight fighting back her own laughter.
"Is Jerrie going to be alright?"
This did help Jenny to refocus and she gave Quaxo a kind smile. "Of course, sweetie. He's got a few cuts and bruises from this fight of his, but thankfully no broken bones." She gave Mungojerrie a cheeky grin though and swatted at his ears,"Don't be so smug, Jer. You sprained your left wrist pretty good. Did the Hex that you took a swing at have a brick jaw? And for that matter were you hitting him with your wrist?"
His smug expression disappeared quickly,"Jus' loike Teaze. Alway's ruinin' mah mood."
Jenny gave him a sisterly tousle through his shoulder fluff. "You'll be sore for a few days, possibly two weeks. Depends on how much time you actually rest."
"Two weeks." Teazer supplied, giggling at her friends stubborn look.
Quaxo settled himself on the bed beside Jerrie, Teazer on the other side, and Jenny had been in front of Jerrie, was now turned around and walking into the backroom.
"Well I'm glad you are not badly hurt. Will you be attending the Jellicle Ball in a couple hours?"
Jerrie gave Quaxo a cocky grin,"Jus' try an stop meh."
"He couldn't, but I could." Jenny walked back out with some loose cloth in her paws.
Jerrie gave her a defiant stare but after a few moments surrendered and dropped his eyes shrugging.
"Jenny, yah 'ave too much power in this den."
She giggled not even denying it,"Sure do, Teazer. That just gives you more of a reason not to get treated by me."
Teazer nodded her head, as much as she trusted her sister, if she was ever injured, to do all in her power to heal her; being trapped in the healer's den because of an injury or illness was not something she wanted to experience.
"So when do yah wan' meh tah pick yah up for the ball tonight, Teaze? Or would yah jus' loike tah hang out till i's time an then go tahgether?" Jerrie asked in his most playful and happiest voice.
Ohhh, bad. Awkward. Jenny thought before she knelt down to Jerrie's wrist, keeping her nose out of it. Her only interruptions to voice commands to Jerrie to hold out his wrist, or to keep still, while she worked in silence doing her best not to eavsdrop, or at the very least to keep her opinions to herself. Both Quaxo and Rumpleteazer's moods changed drastically and Jerrie did notice the difference but had yet to put two and two together.
Jerrie winced as Jenny wrapped up his wrist touching tender spots,"What do yah say Teaze?"
"Well Jer, as much as Oi'd loike tah...Oi'm..."
"Teazer," Quaxo cut her off,"Please. Got to the ball with Jerrie. I...As long as you're happy."
Teazer was about to reach out to Quaxo, but Jerrie caught her paw.
"Hey,"Jenny gently pulled their paws apart,"I have no finished with this wrap yet." She was almost done, but every time Jerrie moved it moved the wrap and Jenny would have to redo some of it, so that it would fit snuggly.
Jerrie did give her an apologetic stare, but was quickly flicking his eyes from Teazer to Quaxo and then back to Teazer. "Yah two 'ad alreadeh planned tah go tahgether...An Oi drop back in, an assume Teaze an Oi are goin'. Oi'm an idiot."
"No Jer, yah're not."
"Did yah agree tah go wi'h 'im or did yah ask 'im tah the ball?"
"Oi agreed, but-"
"Well then, yah obviously want'd tah go wi'h 'im. Oi can go wi'h someone else." His eyebrows waggled in Jenny's direction and she responded with a snort.
"But Jer. We usually go tahgether."
"Yeah, she obviously wants to go with you. Teazer, Jerrie don't worry about me."
Jenny sighed loud enough once the three began to argue. She had finished wrapping his wrist and they all grew silent watching her. "It's none of my business."
Teazer gave her older sister another pointed glare,"Yah've already made it ah point tah get intah our business. Moight as well go all the way."
Jenny hushed her younger sister, then shrugged,"I would suggest that all three of you go together."
"The three of us?" Quaxo asked in a weak voice. Teazer looked at the two toms nervously, while Jerrie looked to Jenny with a smirk,"Tha' sounds doable, an we already know yah can' keep your eyes off of meh."
Jerrie flung an arm around Quaxo, who sputtered made-up words out of shock. Teazer once again, giggled at Quaxo's expense. "Oi love tha' idea! Quacks?" She looked at him anxiously.
They'd only been hanging out for a few moments, half an hour tops and aside from that one awkward moment that lead into an awkward fight, Teazer couldn't stop from laughing or having fun. She was still too young to consider settling down, but she felt the three of them went well together. At Teazer and Jerrie's looks, Quaxo's shyness melted away. It was replaced by a cheeky grin.
"Alright, it's a date. But, if everything goes well and you see a stocking outside my den, you'll have to leave Teaze. Means Jer and I are getting lucky." He gave Jerrie a sloppy wet kiss on the cheek.
It was Jerrie's turn to flush and sputter incoherently. Teazer would have rolled off the bed in a fit of giggles if Jenny hadn't caught her. Jerrie was still blushing, but he did tighten his arm around the tuxedo's shoulder. It was true that he had never really hungout with Quaxo, and now he couldn't imagine why. "The three of us will get along jus' foine."
He had no real claim over Teazer, but he had always been a bit territorial with other toms wanting to be close with her. With Quaxo, he was completely at ease, and more then willing to share his time with Teazer, with Quaxo.
"Yah kiddin' Jer? This is goin' tah be one of the best balls Oi've ever gone tah!" She gave Jenny a quick hug and murmured a 'Thank you' in the healer's ear.
Jenny was about to move back to the other room, when she noticed her friend just outside the den. Noilly slowly walked into the infirmary, taking a quick glance at the three giggling jellicles. Zander was in her arms, but his paws were painfully clutching her hair. Her attempt to pry Zander free of it, proved futile. Jennyanydots grinned as she joined her best friend. "Zander is attached to you."
"Literally," Noilly spoke, a hint of happiness to her voice.
Ever since Jenny had informed her that she was pregnant, the healer worried that she'd go into another pit of depression. But at the news of having an innocent baby in a few months, seemed to pull Noilly out of her sadness. Demeter had taken a liking to Noilly, and was even helping the himalayan with what to expect. Jenny came up and gently soothed Zander, enough that he loosened his death grip, but still held onto Noilly.
She cradled Zander,"Guess he won't be going anywhere soon." Zander murmured against her ear, a few giggles ecaping the infant.
"Well, he'll have to. The Jellicle Ball is in two and a half hours."
Noilly's smile turned into a sad one,"I'm not attending the ball this year."
"How come Noilly?"
She moved across the den, keeping her voice low. She didn't think that Mungojerrie, Rumpleteazer, or Quaxo would eavsdrop and then spread her business around, they weren't like Panthera. Yet, if her previous experience dealing with the Gabby queen taught her anything, it was to be more cautious with her privacy.
"After everything in the past couple of months, Jenny. I have no wish to celebrate."
"I understand that Noilly. I guess I would feel the same way, if our roles were reversed. So, you'll be watching baby Zander during the ball for Demeter and Rumpus?...Alone?"
The himalayan cooed in Zander's ear and he giggled louder, nuzzling further into Noilly's thick long hair. "Yes I am going to look after him for them. However, Panthera will be here soon to keep me company."
"No. I am not loving that idea. I don't want her anywhere near you."
"Relax Jenny. With you going to the ball, and Panthera banned from going. Well I cannot take care of the infirmary by myself. If a medical emergency should happen during the ball. Since Panthera also has to do nursing shifts for the next few months as penance, it'll be the perfect opportunity for me to start teaching her."
"I don't like it, Noilly."
Shyly smiling up at Jenny, she gave her friend a knowing glance. "She would not start a fight of physical or verbal abuse. There is no cause for alarm."
"She better not." Jenny brought her paw up to rest on Noilly's shoulder. "You let me know the minute she steps over the line."
Noilly nodded, but knew she would inform the leader and his mate first, before telling Jenny. She had informed Jenny first, last time, and her friend ended up confronting Panthera and got herself as well as Panthera into trouble. The only way the leader was allowing Jenny to attend the ball this time was because Noilly, Tugger, Munkustrap, and Alonzo all went to him and stuck up for Jenny's actions. She did not want Jenny getting into more trouble on her account. Her respect, gratitude and friendship to the healer meant too much to her. Especially now, with a baby on the way. She was still terrified over it, but her new friendship with Demeter and Jenny and Tugger's continuing support had encouraged her; kept her sane. Giving Jenny a hug to reassure her, she was about to mutter that she was going to be alright. Zander interrupted, making a noise at being sandwiched between the two queens. Laughing, both of the queens stepped out of their hug. Jenny patted Zander's head in apology and then moved into the back room. It wasn't long before Tugger sauntered into the infirmary. He gave Noilly a smirk, before stopping in front of Quaxo, Jerrie and Teazer.
"'Ey Tugger."
"Jerrie." He grinned, giving the three a raised eyebrow. The three looked incredibly comfortable together and he noted to himself that all of them were touching in some way. They were certainly an odd trio, but they seemed quite comfortable with one another, so Tugger wasn't about to judge. If any of the younger queens could catch two toms, he would have bet good fish that it would be Teazer.
Noilly Pratt didn't say anything to the leopard tom, he was in his element, flirting with all three of them, she guessed. Though a quick glance over her shoulder confirmed he was flirting with Rumpleteazer, in a mock attempt to get her attention away from her two friends, though from the looks on the two toms faces they didn't take Tugger's advances seriously. Teazer didn't seem to take things seriously either. Noilly almost frowned, but thought better of it. Jennyanydots had never appeared to be bothered by Tugger's flirting even when they were dating, and she knew that Jenny wasn't in that place; then again Tugger didn't seem to be in that place either. But Noilly couldn't help but wonder how much easier it would be for her two friends, if they'd just grow up and get back together. In some ways, the cream himalayan thought the two were perfect for each other and in some ways she thought the pair would be a complete train-wreck. Her jaw twitched in slight agitation before busying her paws with handling Zander. A small daydream had fluttered passed her mind about taking on the role of match-maker, coming up with some ingenious plan and getting two of her best friends together as mates. She couldn't handle her own life, nor had she ever even been courted by a tom before. She wasn't sure she wanted to, not right away. Noilly was determined not to let one bad incident with a tom color her whole future in a bad way. Running a paw through Zander's extra head-fluff, she relaxed at the small pleased noise he made. She was no good at making plans and playing match-maker for Jenny, it just wasn't her thing. She couldn't see herself doing that. A paw landed on her shoulder and she heard a deep purr just behind her ear.
"Looking as gorgeous as ever, Noel."
Noilly refrained from making a face at his nickname for her, and simply turned to face him. "Good evening, Tugger."
He grinned,"You haven't seen my lovely date around have you?"
Shifting Zander into a better position she cocked her head,"She's in the backroom. You're welcome to go in there and surprise her, but please do not give her a heart attack."
"No promises." He bent down to give her a soft, but friendly kiss on the cheek.
She didn't think it was proper to receive a kiss in that manner, unless it was from a tom that was trying to date a queen, or perhaps a kiss from a relative. However, after becoming friends with Tugger and getting to know him, she made an exception for him. She watched him swagger to the backroom and disappear. The leopard tom perked up when he saw Jenny busily working on organizing the room. A quick scan did confirm that the backroom was in disarray. Jenny stopped in midstep when she sensed that she was no longer the only one in the room. Once she relaxed and went back to work, Tugger came forward and embraced her from behind.
"Hey hot stuff, don't you ever stop working?"
"Such a charmer." Jenny fake swooned, before turning in his grasp.
She leaned forward slightly and their lips touched briefly. Once the friendly kiss was over, Tugger looked at her amused expression. "You're here early. Have ulterior motives?"
Laughing, Tugger kissed her jawline down to her neck. "A queen after my heart."
"I'll take that as a yes. What is it?"
Tugger grinned against Jenny, nipping at the healers neck. "It occurred to me, Jenny..." He spoke in a hushed voice, his paws gliding down her back to wrap around Jenny's waist loosely. His thumbs moved in circles on the small of her back. "That we never got to have break-up sex."
Jenny snorted, though didn't push Tugger away. He felt her paw in his hair and her lips against his ear. He shivered slightly when she bit down on his ear. "Is that a big issue for you, baby?"
Tugger tested his luck by reaching further down and grabbing her butt. "If I said yes, would it work right here, right now?"
"Here?" Jenny smirked,"You always were a bit kinky."
"Me?" Tugger chuckled,"Think you've got me confused with a saucy orange tiger."
Jenny wrapped a leg around his waist and brought his face back up to hers. "If we did this right here and now, you'd enjoy it. You'd enjoy it if we got caught in the middle of it, or if one of the jellicles out there were secretly watching us."
Tugger matched her mischievous smile,"Can't argue that." He sighed, however, he couldn't stop himself from running his paw down her leg in a seductive way. "No, it's not a big issue."
Tugger had seen in Jenny's eyes that she would have let him get with her one last time. But he found himself staring at her eyes and realizing that he didn't want one last romp with her. He wanted more. It scared him. She smirked, not understanding his hesitancy, and cupped his cheek with her paw. The indecision she saw in his eyes was cute, but she just didn't understand it. "Guess we won't be getting wild, but..."
Her eyes twinkled dangerously, and Tugger found he missed her devious looks directed at him. "We can still do this."
His eyebrow started to raise in question. All thoughts fled his mind, when she brought the back of his head towards her and kissed him senseless. He hoisted her up by her butt and she wrapped her legs around his waist, hooking her ankles together. He moved them around until they hit the nearest wall. With Jenny trapped between the wall and his body, Tugger couldn't help but to cup one of her breasts with a free paw and tease her a little. Licking her bottom lip, she opened her mouth granting him entrance. He re-explored her mouth, their two tongues occasionally dueling for dominance. With his paw, he moved it to her other neglected breast and massaged it. She moaned into his mouth, and he swallowed a groan of his own.
Meanwhile, Teazer ran back into the waiting arms of Jerrie and Quaxo with a squeak and giggle. "Yah definitleh do no' wan' tah go in there."
"Why Teazer? Tugger came to pick up Jenny for the ball..." Quaxo trailed off when he saw Jerrie's face and waggling eyebrows. "They're not having a private discussion...They're not fighting." Quaxo listed off with dawning comprehension. "Oh."
A low moan and a deeper hungry growl floated into the main infirmary. Quaxo's eyebrows jumped high on his forehead and his eyes went wide,"OH!"
"So ovah 'im, my tail!" Teazer mocked Jenny under her breath.
"No' interest'd in Jennah anymore...Wha' ah laugh." Jerrie countered.
Noilly, believing an infant shouldn't hear those types of sounds, left the infirmary with Zander in tow.

Nervously, Bombalurina paced just outside the door to the tom's den. When there was no immediate answer to her knock, Bombalurina's pacing stopped and she glanced restlessly around. She understood that he was probably still angry with her, but she found herself already moving on. So surely, he was moving on as well. The last thing she wanted was to have things remain awkward between them.
"What are you doing here?" She heard, and she instantly looked over at Munkustrap.
"Hey..." She spoke softly, giving him a half-smile.
He tilted his head in confusion, but still offered her a friendly greeting. He knew they were both moving on from what they use to have, but wasn't entirely sure why they were still awkward around each other. Perhaps his friendship with Silberia was partly the cause.
"How are you?"
Munk shrugged his shoulders,"I'm doing fine."
"That's good to hear."
"Listen...not that this isn't pleasant, but you still haven't told me why you're here."
"Right." Bomba shifted her weight. After looking around and positive that everything was clear of nosy Jellicles, she nodded. "I came here to ask you a favor."
----- ----- ----- ----- ----- -----
Pouncing, the two queens rolled into the grass. A bundle of fur, tangled limbs, and giggles emerged from the two. Exotica finally got control over her laughter and got up from underneath Jemima. She helped the Black-scarlett queen to her own feet, chuckling under her breath at the sight of her new friend. Reaching up, she began to remove the twigs and grass out of Jemima's mane, still laughing as she did so.
"Thank you, Exotica." Jemima practically purred as the brown queen removed the twigs from her mane, giggling again. "And I'm not just talking about the twigs."
Xottie halted her movements momentarily her laughing died down, but a shy smile replaced it. "There's no need. I don't understand why you're so nervous. You are a great catch Jemima. Any tom would be lucky to have you and I'm sure there will be toms dying to dance with you during the courtship."
Jemima smirked,"Easy for you to say, Miss 'I already have a date'."
Exotica ducked her head to hide her grin. She and Jemima had both decided to get better acquainted, because they were both chosen to dance at the ball. Neither one expected a friendship to form between them, but that was what had happened. Exotica couldn't believe she hadn't become friends with Jemima before then, but she was grateful that they were friends now. Trying to move past the topic of Jagger, Exotica cleared her throat.
"I know you've said you don't want to dwell on the dance, but who would you want or are hoping will stand up to dance with you...?"
Exotica saw the look in Jemima's eyes and cut her off,"And don't say, 'Anyone...just as long as someone stands up for me.'"
Jemima pouted,"We're spending too much time together."
Exotica grinned, but still nudged Jemima expecting an answer and wasn't going to let up until she received one.
"Fine." Jemima swatted at Xottie. "The only tom I've ever been comfortable around, besides play wrestling with the other tom-kittens when I was younger, is Coricopat. But he has a date."
Xottie shook her head,"Wasn't my question. Don't you have a crush on any tom or think any of them are cute?"
"A couple."
"Well, spill Jem. Who?"
Jemima's eyes went to the ground. "Well obviously Tugger, though I feel strange things from him when I'm around him."
"Really?"
"Yes. Though it's usually only when Jenny is nearby. Wish those two would catch a clue and become mates."
"They have been dancing around each other for as long as Tugger and Bombalurina had been in the past. Who else?"
"I think both Alonzo and Gllenning are cute, though Gllen is quite a bit older then I am. I also...no nevermind."
"What is it?"
"I never really gave much thought to him before, but once Bombalurina started dating Munkustrap..."
"You have a crush on your sister's ex?"
"What? No. Not a crush, but I did start to notice how handsome he was after Bomba began dating him."
"I see....Oh." Xottie had spotted jellicles in the distance beginning to emerge into the main area, just as the music began to start. It had been jellicles who were single, however it was Old Deuteronomy and Gus that had caught her attention. The old pair were holding paws as they entered the main area for the ball.
Jemima grinned,"Seems like the ball is finally starting."
"Huh. Lucky."
"What?"
"Teazer managed to find herself two dates."
Jemima whistled, both impressed and jealous.
"You're making me go in there like that?" They heard Kara complain.
"I'm not forcing you to do anything, Kara, but I am your escort and date for this ball."
Kara pouted, but frustrated she put her paw through his offered arm, letting him walk her onto the dance floor like a "lady".
Jemima chuckled,"She's so stubborn."
"Coricopat has his work cut out for him."
They both began laughing. Bombalurina walked past, headed for the area. She glance in their direction, responding to Jemima's wave with one of her own. Smiling at Exotica she gave the exotic beauty a friendly greeting. "Nervous about the dance?"
"Why would she be? She'll be fighting off all the toms." Came a cocky reply.
All three queens glanced up to see Jagger swagger in. Xottie was delighted to see him, but words caught in her throat when Jagger's arm wrapped around Bombalurina's waist. Jemima caught on, having felt the emotions roll off all three of them, and frowned. Bomba nodded her agreement,"You will too, Jemima. Good luck, and have fun."
"Come on, darlin'." Jagger glanced back to wink at Exotica and then the two of them joined the dancing.
"Exotica...I had no idea." Jemima spoke honestly. Had she known her sister was going to steal Jagger away from Exotica, she would have warned her friend. She watched Xottie shake her head and start walking in the opposite way, away from the ball. She didn't want Xottie to miss out on such an important event for the two of them. "Maybe he'll still get up to dance the courtship with you. Maybe he thought that was all you wanted and that he could have a date for the rest of the ball?"
"No. One, Bomba is known for her jealousy and wouldn't like it or me if Jagger still danced with me. And two, I know him. To put it bluntly, he wants to score with Bombalurina. He won't do anything that will jeopardize that. Uggh! I was so stupid!"
"No, don't say that." Jemima grabbed Exotica's arm, forcing her to stop walking away.
"I can't go in there. No one is going to dance with me. I...I should have had a back-up. No that's stupid too."
She cupped Xottie's cheeks, wiping away the fresh tears. "I know in my heart that a tom will get up and dance with you. So what if it's not Jagger. This ball is about you and me. And you sweetie, can do SO much better than Jagger."
Exotica downcasted her eyes still not convinced. she embraced Jemima, burying her face in Jemima's shoulder. "I'm so embarrassed....treating us like we were a real item, even though I knew all it was for him was sex."
Jemima stroked Exotica's back,"There's nothing to be embarrassed about. Now you're not going to make me dance the courtship alone, are you? You are going to come with me to attend the ball?"
"In a minute?" Exotica curled deeper into Jemima's comfort.
"Sure."

Alonzo sighed, muttering to himself as he left out of one of the exits of the junkyard. He could hear faintly the music, singing, and overall commotion of the ball. Unfortunately, he had gotten patrol duty that night. Aside from the occasional 'peek-in' to make sure the party goers were all accounted for and safe, Alonzo wasn't going to see much of the ball that year. He could hear Mistoffelees singing the invitation to the Jellicle Ball, just before he walked completely out of earshot. He began to hum Munkustrap's part of the song, trying to experience the ball in some small way. He even did a few dance moves as he walked the streets. Despite fooling around and having his thoughts elsewhere, he was keeping an eye out for any potential threats and for Hexes. The walk was very uneventful and Alonzo frowned. That was highly unusual. There was always some sort of Hex activity going on during the night of the ball, no matter how insignificant. But Alonzo hadn't run into a single Hex, not even any recruits trying to prove themselves to become a Hex. Alonzo thought for certain he'd have run into something, considering what he had heard Mungojerrie go through only a few hours prior. He wasn't sure if no activity should have worried him, or if that meant they were actually going to leave the jellicles alone during their ball for once. He mused on that thought for a bit as he approached a construction site. He had heard that the Plaza in the city was going to be destroyed and the humans were planning on building something in its place. Alonzo had assumed this was that. Since it was evening, all the human workers were gone from the area. It looked like a good hiding place for supplies, or a Hex ambush. That and curiosity caused Alonzo to squeeze under a small hole in the bottom of the fence. Glancing around, Alonzo kept himself alert, just in case there were Hexes or any other hostile animals about. A dogs howl in the distance had Alonzo turning around quickly, his fur sponging out. The howl had covered up a muffled noise. One that Alonzo almost missed. Surveying the area, he noticed some of the buildings half-demolished and in ruins. The noise was coming from one of the destroyed buildings. More importantly it was coming from underneath the rubble. Moving swiftly, Alonzo approached it, cautiously. The building itself looked dangerous and unstable. As he got closer, he could definitely hear voices.
"Help! Help us, someone!"
"Calm down. It's unlikely that anyone will hear you. How long do you suppose it'll be before we suffocate?"
"No, no, no, no, no! I'm not going to sit here and hear this talk of doom. We're not going to die, we're only trapped. Hey. Is that blood?! OH MAN! We're going to DIIIEEE!"
Alonzo's eyebrows rose up, fairly certain that it wasn't a Hex ploy. "You guys aren't going to die, if I can do anything about it."
He heard a startled gasp, followed by an 'I told you so'.
"Can you get us out?"
"Not by myself, this place is is too unstable for that. I'm going to need help. How many of you are trapped?"
"There's three of us, but my brother, he's unconscious. Are you really going to help us?"
"Yeah? You're not going to leave and never come back are you?"
"I wouldn't have offered my help if I intended to do that."
"Well this pretty queen beside me is injured-"
"I feel fine."
"If you're going to help, I suggest you hurry."
Alonzo nodded,"I'll be as quick as I can."

It was during Old Deuteronomy's song, that was now a duet with Gus, that the separation between the couples and the jellicles who were single became prominent. Many of the couples were laying down by each other during their song. Skimbleshanks lay off to the side, while Silberia and Seffina were nearby. Bill Bailey, Pouncival, and Carbucketty were in a pile with Extwo. All four jellicles too young to even think about pairing themselves off. Both Munkustrap and George stood off on opposite sides, watching the elders sing. Jemima, Demeter, Exotica, and Electra were near each other whispering quietly amongst themselves. Mistoffelees, who was laying next to Plato, wouldn't admit it out loud, but he was keeping an eye on his twin, Quaxo and how is date with the tiger tabby thieves was going. The only other single jellicle, who was of age, that was attending the ball was Rumpus and he was not in the area at all.
Silberia felt a tail tip run down her leg. Glancing up at Skimble, she winked,"Flirting with me, Goldie-locks?"
"Aye lass. Ye'll know it when I be flirtin'."
Silberia grinned at the tabby, moving to be closer to the tom. Seffina gave the pair a look, but had no real urge to find a date for the rest of the night. Jemima sighed dreamily as she watched Old Deuteronomy and Gus' paws entwine. They were walking up to the tire together, and then both of them proceeded to sit down side by side. "I want to have that someday."
"You'll have it."
"We'll all have that,"Exotica added, even though she didn't quite believe it.
The four continued to gossip about the other couple's, even as Munkustrap began Rumpus Cat's song. Extwo, Etcetera, Sillabub, and Cagalli rushed to be the first four to sit with Deuteronomy and Gus. Most all of the jellicles scattered, queens on one side and toms on the other. However, Gus Jr. did go before his father and Deuteronomy with Victoria beside him. There was tension that not even Munkustrap's singing could cut through. Yet, Asparagus Jr bowed his head to the two elders, before he and Victoria parted. Victoria joined Demeter, Jemima, Electra and Exotica, a big smile on her face.
"It's going well, I take it?"
"Oh yes", Victoria beamed. "So much better then I thought it would be."
"You're glowing." Demeter noted.
The white queen didn't shy away but looked quite proud. They weren't the only pair being talked about. Another pair that had really caught a lot of the jellicles by surprise was Admetus and Krystalle. The pair looked fantastic together and when they danced they both seemed to flow as one. Their body movements and dance steps were beautiful and intricate, so much so that they had even gotten the attention of some of the other couples. This however, had caused Krystalle to withdraw a bit, all the attention making her increasingly uncomfortable. Jemima had felt it, when the black beauty passed by her.
"So how come Tugger and Jenny act like there is nothing between them?" Electra piped up, to cut through the silence that befell the group. Demeter gazed at the Tortie princess, unsure how to respond. "I think you've got it wrong, Electra. I believe they are just friends." Even if their history proved more complicated then that, but she wasn't even going to try and explain it, she didn't understand it herself sometimes.
Electra shrugged her shoulders, secretly hoping that was the case. For she still had a crush on the black and blonde maine coon. As Jelly walked by, Exotica gave her a cat call, having noticed her getting frisky with Bustopher a few songs back. Plus, she felt like getting even with the queen after being scolded by her for 'being' with Jagger. Jelly's ears folded backwards in embarrassment but she continued on her way. The four single ladies got into position just as Rumpus leaped in, grinning at all the jellicles.
"So he decided to do his song after all?" Jemima whispered to Demeter, who nodded back.
"It's such a big part of who he is. Though I could imagine him passing his song onto someone else one day."
"Alonzo?"
Demeter shook her head,"Alonzo chose not to pick up the 'torch', wanting his responsibilities to be the safety of the tribe and not those on the streets. No one is doing Rumpus job, and I can only see him passing his song to someone who is out there fighting the fight on the streets."
Exotica sat down gracefully between Jemima and Demeter. "Hey Jemmie?"
The black and scarlett calico nuzzled her friends cheek, though she was keeping an eye on Demeter and one on Rumpus; who had just started 'play mocking Munkustrap'. The silver tabby rolled his eyes at Rumpus with a amused smirk, as he playfully pushed Rumpus towards the center of the "stage".
"Do you think Cettie could convince her brother George to dance the courtship with me? Or perhaps-"
"Relax Exotica." The chocolate queen found some comfort with Demeter. "A tom will stand up for you. It'll happen."
She chose to trust Demeter, as Rumpus song came to a close.
"I could always dance first, if you're that nervous." Jemima slyly spoke.
Exotica gently nudged Jemima as she stood up,"I'm a big girl Jem, I'll be alright. But thanks...Thank you for the offer."
They all heard the eerie music rise in crescendo, beckoning the jellicles to come to the ball, the evening highlight was finally upon them. Jemima had lost track of Exotica in the new rush of dancing, but Demeter stuck by close. It was her way of providing Jemima moral support for her upcoming courtship, and Jemima was grateful for it. Off in one of the corners, where the pair didn't draw too much attention to themselves, was Tumblebrutus and Vimala. The couple slow danced with each other, not concerned that the music was more upbeat. They didn't even seem to notice Jagger grinning at them and sending a thumbs up over to Adonis. Adonis smirked back as he rolled his eyes. Though his focus quickly went back to his date, Tantomile. She was cartwheeling towards him. He had been leery of her hyperactivity and gymnastics at first, but now he was use to it and found it refreshing. She came out of her cartwheel and Adonis caught her. He lifted her up into the air, above his head, spinning her slowly before placing her back on her feet. They nuzzled each other just as the rejoined the full bustle of dancing alongside Bombalurina and Jagger. Aside from the constant bickering, Coricopat and Kara were busting out impressive dance moves and creating a stir. Rumpleteazer on the other hand, had her paws full with two toms, both wanting to dance with her equally and at the same time. Their awkward movements and Jerrie and Quaxo frequently stumbling over each other in their attempts to dance with Rumpleteazer provided amusing entertainment for Old Deuteronomy and Gus. Both of whom were laughing and generally having a great time. The huge group danced as one, and flowed together despite the different dance moves they were all doing. It was no surprise when Gus ended up walking back to the tire to sit down. With his many medical issues, he couldn't dance as much or as long as he wanted. He watched from his vantage point, as the jellicles scattered. Victor lead a small group of toms in dance, George and Pouncival just behind him. After a few moves Carbucketty and Bill Bailey leaped in behind. Gus soon found Deuteronomy joining him on the tire to watch the younger toms wiggle their hips and jump in the air. It was a silly notion but Old Deuteronomy believed the toms dance and the upcoming queens dance helped to encourage the single jellicles to start noticing the opposite sex and possibly go with them to the next ball a year later. Many who had become mates in the past, started off that way. His eyes were back in the center when Bombalurina crashed through the adolescent toms dance and started a couples dance. Jennyanydots, Cassandra, Silberia, and Susperia joined her. All their dates watched in fascination as their hips moved. Both of the leaders knew what they were glued to, as they had both been there in their youth. Tugger came in behind Jenny, a smirk on his face. Gllenning skipped up, his paws intertwining with Cassandra's. The brown queen had a smug and pleased smile on her face. Bombalurina was purring in the arms of Jagger, thoroughly approving of him kissing her neck. Beside Bombalurina, Susperia moved. Her dancing wasn't as sexy, perhaps due to her age, but Victor was attracted to her body none-the-less. He hoisted her in the air with ease and she giggled in his arms. Although Silberia hadn't come with a date, she was happy when she sensed Skimbleshanks paws on her hips. Her tail sought out his and they curled together as they danced. All the toms danced with their sensual partners and then lifted them up and carried them away. As the couples departed the younger queens spread out and took to the "stage" for their spot in the light. Demeter stood in the middle with Exotica, Jemima, Electra, and Seffina to either side of her. Deuteronomy looked around at the toms on the sidelines. Although he was hoping their would be some interest from the toms for all the queens dancing. He didn't want any of the queens or toms to grow up mateless, but he was more or less concerned with Exotica and Jemima. They were the two dancing the courtship, as soon as the queens dance was over. Unfortunately, he didn't see much interest on the toms part. Most had dates or were too young.
Gus patted his paw, bringing him out of his distressing thoughts. "You'd think you were the one who was about to dance the courtship."
Deut chuckled at his younger mate,"Point taken."
Finally, the center was cleared as a slower and more intimate song played in the air. All the couples, the ones with dates (both friendly and romantic) moved to the sides with their partners, including Skimble and Silberia who had been getting more friendly as the night went on. Jemima had given Exotica a reassuring hug and a cheek nuzzle. She slid down to the ground, by herself, close to the tire. Both awaiting her turn and to watch her friend. Shyly, Exotica walked up to be in the center of the jellicles. Her movements started off slow. Her steps took a more exotic approach, resembling that of a gypsy or a belly-dancer. She spun slowly on one foot, her torso moving while her hips swayed from side to side. It was a captivating and very alluring dance. Jemima herself almost felt pulled to stand up to dance with her, though she had never felt an attraction for a queen before, it was peculiar. Jemima couldn't help but to tear her eyes away from Exotica and scan the crowd in her curiosity. She didn't see too many toms looking at Exotica. When the chocolate beauty stopped dancing and reached her paws up to the sky, Jemima felt as nervous as Exotica looked. No one stood up and Jemima found herself saying 'Come on', in a hushed whisper. She even glanced at Jagger, hoping he'd go against Bomba's wishes and dance with Xottie. However, he wasn't even looking at Exotica but was in fact snogging Bombalurina. Jemima fought the urge to smack them both; they should have been respectful enough to observe Xottie's time in the spotlight. The leaders saw Gllenning shifting uncomfortably next to Cassandra. The only reason he had agreed to be Cassie's date to the ball was because he thought Exotica was going with Jagger. The moment he tried getting up to dance with Xottie, Cassie's paw landed on his leg and she gave him a soft warning growl. Jemima was angled enough to see Xottie's face and when she saw a tear fall down the older queens cheek, Jemima began to weep with her. Exotica's shoulders began to slump and shudder with her sobbing. Her paws dropped and she turned determined to leave the center and hide away in her den the rest of the night. She got a few steps before a paw grabbing her around the waist stopped her from leaving. She was turned around, and through her blurry vision from the tears she was crying, she found herself staring at Rumpus. He gave her a sad smile as he tried wiping away some of her tears. She nearly panicked when he brought her even closer to her body. Demeter had been real supportive of her and in some strange way she felt guilty that she was in the arms of Demeter's ex and father of her son. Rumpus must have sensed her panic, for he gave her a little space, but wrapped his arms around her; enough to make her feel safe. After her crying stopped, Rumpus started a slow rhythm, a side step dance move, still trying to make her feel wanted, safe and ease her into the dance. More calm with herself and with Rumpus' gentleness, she too started dancing more. Her exotic moves started back up, complimenting his tender and intimate steps. Spinning, so that her back was firmly against his chest, their two hips swayed together. His paws slid down her sides sensually to the tops of her thighs. The slow grind of his hips had her eyes going wide and he twirled her back around to face him. She had a better understanding of why Demeter had been attracted to him in the past. She couldn't even imagine how kind of a lover he'd be, having only Jagger as a comparison, but she craved the distinct change of what Rumpus represented than Jagger's rough, and passionate tumble. They nuzzled and then moved to join the rest of the couples on the floor. Exotica looked around for Demeter wanting to share her time with Rumpus, but her eyes couldn't find any sign of her golden coat. Rumpus and Exotica curled together, but as comfortable as she was to be cuddling with the black tom, she was anxious to watch Jemima dance.
The black calico knew Rumpus was moving on from Demeter, she had felt it from him, and though she felt for her sister, she was also happy for Exotica. Not to mention, she was now nervous that something similar was going to happen to her, during her dance. If no one stood up for her at first, she wasn't sure if she'd get it together to finish her dance, if someone took pity on her and her tears. Not like Exotica. Despite all the complaining and nervousness Exotica displayed, she still was composed enough to stop her crying and finish her dance with Rumpus. Jemima knew she couldn't do something like that, she wasn't brave enough. In fact, she found herself too scared to move. One look to Exotica and another encouraging look from Bombalurina (Who was finally paying attention), Jemima gracefully stood up. Making her way to the center, she was too frightened to look at any of the toms. Her body moved to the beat of the music, slow and unsure at first. Focusing on the highs and lows of the song, her mind finally forgot about the pressure of looking good and being good enough for a tom to dance with her. A smile easily found it's way onto her face. She looked beyond the others and out away from the junkyard. Her petite body rocked with the music, her arms outstretched above her head. Spinning, she grinned wider, her toes pointed out in front of her. As her leg raised up she went up onto her toes, on her other foot, as though she were reaching for the moon itself. The moonlight and the music drove her onward. With a final step, her dance ended and she arched her back in anticipation. When no one answered her dance right away her eyes glanced down, risking a look at some of the toms and queens watching her. She didn't look long before she felt two paws caress down her back, then gripped at her waist. Her head leaned backwards, landing on the toms shoulder. Jemima was pleasantly surprised when Munkustrap rubbed his cheek against hers. He lifted her up and Jemima's limbs gracefully fell into a pose being high above Munkustrap. The silver tabby dropped his hold on her. Jemima twirled as she fell to the ground but was caught by Munkustrap before she hit the dirt. The pose he caught her in, looked as though he had dipped her. With a free paw, it tenderly touched her neck, slowly moving down between her two breasts, a move that had Jemima gasping out, then down her slender stomach. She raised herself back up to meet him and the pair continued to dance. Their gazes were locked onto each other and Jemima stopped herself from leaning into his lips. Munkustrap swallowed nervously. He had promised to dance with Jemima as a favor to Bombalurina. But all the subtle touches and gentle looks that passed between them was doing something to him. Dating Bombalurina, he had never considered or even looked at Demeter or Jemima. He hated to admit it, but all the potential queens he saw as options to settle down with, were held up to a higher standard then Bombalurina. Impossible traits that no queen could possess to live up to. Now, dancing with Jemima, Munkustrap couldn't ignore the sparks between them. Munkustrap's breathing grew heavier when Jemima's leg wrapped around his waist. That's how their dance ended.
Munkustrap leaned in to nuzzle Jemima's neck, but unbeknownst to the other jellicles except Jemima, he softly kissed her neck then whispered in her ear,"You're beautiful, Jemima."
Leaning in she too kissed his neck,"Thank you for the dance." She pulled away with a smile on her face.
With the courtship dances done the rest of the jellicles stood up to continuing with the celebration. Somehow Munkustrap's hold on Jemima's waist loosened and she left to join others. He, of course, joined his friends for the rest of the festivities of the night, only catching small glimpses of Jemima after that.
~^-^~
Once she was far enough away from the central part of the yard and confident enough that no one had followed her, she wrapped her arms around herself and dropped to her knees. Her ears were flat against her head and tears began to well up in her eyes. Everything was stupid, she couldn't believe what she was feeling and didn't understand. She gasped in fright when a paw touched her shoulder. Gilbert instantly drew his paw away, but didn't leave.
His icy blue eyes searched Demeter's face,"Why are you crying, luv?" His eyes glanced away briefly, frowning.
Demeter gave him an odd look,"You sound like Gllen."
Gilbert sighed,"Yeah, there are some bits of him that I can't get rid of."
Demeter, was no longer crying but was clearly still upset, gave him a confused look. He stiffened under her stare, he didn't know why he assumed everyone knew what had happened to him. "I um...I'm a touch telepath, I guess."
Demeter saw his face and just knew that she wasn't going to get a further explanation. Though she assumed she didn't need any more reason then what she got. With a silent nod of her head, Gilbert continued on and away from the subject of his abilities. "You never answered my question." Gilbert's stubbornness and sarcasm were starting to peek through.
Demeter slumped to the ground, her head hung low. "It's...I don't know. Stupid."
Gilbert, though was growing impatient- he never would have asked if he sincerely didn't want to know, sat down beside Demeter giving them both enough space. "You've always struck me as a smart queen. Reasonable...Also pretty." He once again cursed Gllenning's traits for getting him to admit that, out loud.
"Me..? You, really thought that about me?" Demeter never really gave much thought to Gilbert in the past, and found it surprising that he had.
Gilbert nodded his head with a nonchalant shrug,"I still do. If you don't want to talk about it, I get that, really I do."
And she believed him. Demeter admitted to herself that she didn't know much about him, but from what she did know, Gilbert was always a private tom. She didn't want to bore him with problems that now seemed insignificant and really she wasn't too inclined to talk about it in any case. She did relax more in Gilbert's presence. That is until he spoke up again.
"You're not the only one who feels vulnerable...and uncertain."
Her first reaction was to get angry, not only did he invade her thoughts without permission, but he was right. Woah! Her eyes went wide with dawning realization, he was right.
He winced,"I'm still having trouble blocking others; and your thoughts are particularly strong."
She took his statement as his way of apologizing and with a soft voice asked,"Is that why you are here and not attending the ball?"
She didn't know why it took her that long to realize he was out away from the center, presumably the whole evening, alone. Gilbert ducked his head, a sign of withdrawal.
"You got it."
Demeter watched the cream colored tom closely. Half of his mane was "rusty" and the other half was black. Some of his bangs had fallen in his shining, attractive ice blue eyes. The golden-black calico smiled, still stuck staring in his eyes,"You don't have to talk about it, I understand."
A small curve of his lips betrayed his sour comeback,"Stealing my words now?"
Nodding her head, she made a face,"Who said they're your words? Perhaps you got them from me when you peeked into my mind earlier."
"Oh, ho, ho. Touchè."
She grinned, stopping herself from touching his paw or leaning in to give him a hug. "Thank you..."
"For?"
"For making me smile."
Gilbert shrugged, he wasn't some miracle worker. All he was doing was talking with her; one thing he was grateful for Gllen for. He now had social skills that he never obtained before. "I haven't done anything. But you have."
"Exactly. Wait...what?"
He gave her a pointed stare, and after a pause she said slowly,"You're saying that I'm upset because it's my fault...?"
Gilbert waved his paw about in the air,"Crass, but essentially yes."
Huffing, Demeter shook her head,"I don't understand."
Gilbert tapped the side of his head apologetically. "Like I said, I'm still having trouble with control. So I know what happened, why you are upset."
"Oh." Demeter's ears flattened once again.
Gilbert awkwardly reached out and patted Demeter's shoulder. "You really don't have to talk about it if you don't want to. You always have that option. But if my incident taught me anything is that sharing can sometimes be helpful."
"Yeah." She nodded with new resolve,"I can do that. I mean you already know what happened anyway." At his grave nod, she sighed resigned,"I don't even know where to begin. I bet your telepathic powers come in handy sometimes."
Gilbert once again withdrew from her,"I'd rather not have the gift at all."
She didn't understand why he avoided the subject of his abilities, but they were dealing with her problem, not his. "Fair enough."
There was yet another pause, but Gilbert lost patience once again and broke the silence. "Since you're unwilling to get the ball rolling, I'll start...You didn't tell Rumpus you were actually starting to feel something for him, before the ball. Why?"
"I don't know...I was afraid; I was too much of a coward."
"Look, I don't play problem solver for just anybody. You know deep down thats not the reason."
"He...I didn't tell him because I knew...suspected that he'd already moved on. That he only saw me as a close friend."
Gilbert nodded, though he himself didn't know if Rumpus had moved on. All he knew was what he had heard from Demeter's thoughts and memories. Even if Rumpus hadn't, him dancing with Exotica seemed like it was his first step in moving on. He didn't care either way, he'd never dealt with love interests before. Nor did he think he ever would.
"I didn't ask him to the ball. I actually wanted him to find a date to it, so I could be angry with him for moving on before me. So I would feel justified in my anger. Oh my gosh! I'm a horrible queen!"
Putting a paw on top of hers, he forced her to look into his eyes,"Not horrible. You weren't ready to move on, and you had a moment of weakness; we all do at some point."
"Have you always been this wise?"
"Being able to see others perspectives clearly has helped...Just don't tell anyone."
A few giggles fell out of Demeter's mouth. She found it odd that he thought his wisdom was something to hide. "Thank you again. I-" She cut herself off, looking deep into Gil's eyes. Clearing his throat he removed his paw from hers. "I may not have been ready, but I know Rumpus has already started looking elsewhere and I want to too. I don't want to get stuck yearning while all my other options pass me by."
"That's healthy." When her stare didn't let up, he shook his head,"What are you implying?"
"Nothing, but I would love it if you would accompany me for the remainder of the Jellicle Ball." Gilbert firmly shook his head no. "Why not? You don't find me attractive?"
His cynicism was slowly returning and he wasn't sure if he should answer her. "My power...and crowds. They don't mix. It would be a bad idea."
She frowned slightly,"You can't hide behind your power forever. Why don't you come with me? You'll have a great time. And you put things in perspective for me and even cheered me up. Let me return the favor."
He gave in, feeling she wasn't going to leave until he said yes,"Alright, but I reserve the right to leave if I start losing control or am uncomfortable."
Demeter gave him a gentle hug in her excitement; this was her first step in moving on. After kissing his cheek, not noticing his surprised face, Demeter stood up. "If we wait too long we'll miss the whole thing."
"That'd be just fine with me," Gilbert replied under his breath.
"Sour puss."
"Flip-Flopper."
Demeter giggled at that as the pair walked side by side together back towards the Jellicle Ball.

On his way back to the junkyard, Alonzo could hear that the ball was in full swing. It was a treat to hear as he walked up to the fence and slipped in. Rumpus had been nearby, probably leaving the center regularly to keep an eye on all the entrances into the yard. That was also partially Alonzo's job, but Rumpus' gift gave him an advantage to guarding all the ways in. His brother nodded at him, and Alonzo did acknowledge him briefly.
"Good Rumpus. I have an urgent matter for the leaders."
"The courtship dances are finished. I believe Jemima is about to sing Memory in honor of Grizabella and all of those chosen in the past. If it is important, then we must interrupt now.'
Alonzo didn't argue, following Rumpus into the center. His older brother had great timing. The majority of the jellicles had finished dancing and were now sitting to the sides taking a much needed break. He saw Munkustrap touch paws with Jemima on her way to the middle of the group. He also noted, with interest, that Exotica met Rumpus half way and the two held paws. Before Jemmie had a chance to start singing, she must have caught on to Alonzo's emotions. The other empath, Krystalle, had also felt his anxiety and urgency. The white and black tom stepped forward,"I am sorry for interrupting, but I have found three trapped cats. I need help to get them out of there and to safety."
He stopped Deuteronomy from ordering a group to go with him. "It's in the construction site, about a twenty minute walk from here. They're under rubble. It could be dangerous even for the rescue team. I'd prefer to ask for volunteers. Also, if Noilly Pratt and Panthera could come and assess the cats injuries, if we manage to get them out, that would be helpful."
Deuteronomy nodded his agreement with Alonzo and Gus looked out among the crowd,"Mistoffelees."
The black conjurer stood up bowing his head,"Yes Old Gus?"
"Head to the infirmary and tell Noilly the situation and that Panthera will be joining her."
Jenny gave Tugger a quick peck, then stood up as well,"I will go with you Misto. I will prepare the infirmary while they are away. Just in case one or more of them has injuries Noilly and Panthera can't handle."
"Very well." Misto and Jenny made their way to the healers den.
Deuteronomy spoke firmly,"As you all have heard Alonzo, you all know this could be dangerous. I need five volunteers to join Alonzo, and do not feel pressured to go."
"Count me in." Munkustrap walked up to be next to his best friend. Plato as well stepped forward. Victor gave Susperia a kind look, before he too stood up to volunteer.
"Come oun, Ah'll beh okay. Ah'll dodge aneh fallin' debris wi'h ease." Jerrie wickedly grinned at both of his dates, then joined the volunteer group. Jemima who had already been standing, made her way to the group of toms.
"Jemima, no."
She gave Bombalurina a smirk,"No need to worry, sis. I will not be harmed. Besides, they need at least one queen to go with them. Someone to look out for them. Who knows what sort of trouble they'll get into without my help."
Jagger smirked and Bombalurina waved a paw at Jemima to get going. "You made your case."
Jemima said a silent thank you and stood beside Plato and Victor. To be honest, she mostly wanted to go along to make sure nothing bad happened to Munkustrap. He definitely intrigued her. Deuteronomy nodded at the five who volunteered to go with Alonzo. "Victoria if you would. I'd like you to sing Memory in my absence."
Victoria gracefully stood, curtsying to the calico out of respect. With a final look and Deut praying they could free the trapped souls, all six jellicles made their way to the nearest exit in the fence. Standing there waiting, was Noilly Pratt, proud and tall, carrying a small bag of supplies. Next to her was Panthera, with mixed emotions on her face. She was not too happy to be working with Noilly, she was distressed over being banned from the ball, but she was also delighted over seeing two cats rescued from rubble; first-hand. She already had some ideas to juice up the story- in case the reality turned out to be too boring.
"Shall we go?" Panthera asked impatiently. Eager to leave and to get away from Alonzo and Munkustrap. She hadn't forgotten that they had sided with Jenny, and were two reasons why she couldn't be part of the Jellicle Ball. They all agreed, leaving with Panthera.
Jemima managed to catch up with Noilly, offering to carry her bag,"How are you, Noily?"
Her eyes drifted to the back of Panthera's head,"I'm alright. I trust the ball has been going well? Up until now, at any rate."
Jemima ended up grabbing Noilly's paw, joyfully, and spun the cream Himalayan. "It's been great. I hope you don't chicken out of going to the ball next year."
"What a strange saying, but if it'll make you feel better, then I promise I will be attending next year's ball."
Most of the rest of the walk up to the construction site was done in silence. Plato and Victor had been chatting quietly among themselves, as well as Jemima and Noilly Pratt. Jerrie had persisted in annoying Panthera during the walk; with pokes and obnoxious noises. All to get a rise out of her and giggle each time he succeeded. Munkustrap and Alonzo were at the front leading the group. Although the two friends weren't communicating verbally, they knew each other well enough to understand each other through looks and other gestures. Alonzo motioned to the side, once they came upon the construction site. They all followed after Alonzo through the hole in the perimeter.
"Which building?"
"The one to the far left."
"O' Course it is. The buildin' tha' looks the most unstable." Jerrie quipped.
"It's never easy," Plato sighed.
The toms approached it, while the three queens hung back.
"Don't suppose any of you guys are experts with this sort of thing?" Victor asked. "We really can't start grabbing random rocks and moving them aside. We'll run the risk of the entire structure collapsing. Burying us as well."
"Didn't I tell you there was another voice out there? We need help. There was a tom out there earlier who told us he'd help, but he never came back. Please-"
"I am that tom who promised to help you. I had to get some extra bodies to aid me."
There was silence that followed by an 'ouch, what was that for?'
Alonzo shook his head, slightly amused. However it was Munkustrap that spoke first,"Just hang tight. We hope to have you three out as fast as possible."
"Good. The tom is still out cold, and I think we're running out of air. It's getting more difficult to breath."
"That's because you're hyperventilating."
"It's small spaces, they totally freak me out!"
"But we've been stuck in this small space for hours now."
"That was back when I thought help was coming."
"Help is already here. Calm down."
"How long do you reckon they've been married?" Plato snickered.
"We heard that."
"Enough. We've got three cats trapped under there, one possibly seriously hurt. Let's get to work."
The toms nodded, following Alonzo's lead once more. Alonzo began inspecting the toppled ruins of the building, but like Victor pointed out, no one there was an expert. He had no idea what he was looking for. "We'll start with these small chunks here."
Plato and Victor walked around Alonzo, picking the bits they could carry, on the other side. Munkustrap and Mungojerrie joined Alonzo to help him out. Jemima stood between Noilly and Panthera. Standing there, she was the first to admit that she didn't know what to do and felt awkward. Noilly and Panthera were there to assess the injured, and the toms were starting to dig the trapped cats out. She wanted to contribute in some way, but both of her sisters and all the toms would kill her if she stepped one more foot near the wreckage. The toms worked in silence, focusing their efforts on freeing the two cats. This went on for what seemed like a long time. Though the silence, the waiting, and the anticipation made the few minutes drag on; and it only felt longer then it really was. A pained hiss from Alonzo caught the two nurses attention. He dropped the sharp heap he was holding. Panthera blew out a breath of hot air, but stepped forward. "I've got this. It'll give me something to do."
Noilly nodded respectfully,"Let me know what supplies you'll need."
Panthera agreed, though she mumbled about how boring the 'rescue' was turning out to be. Dragging Alonzo to the side, she muttered about how big of a baby he was being. "Looks like you cut your paw."
Alonzo resisted the urge to roll his eyes,"Thanks for pointing out the obvious."
Alonzo made a soft pained noise when Panthera grabbed him and lead him away by his injured paw. Jemima winced in sympathy, watching the pair. "I don't think it's too deep, but I still need a cloth or some gauze. If you have any Noilly Pratt."
Giving a slight nod of Panthera's assessment after she inspected Alonzo's paw, she reached into her supply bag. "The blood is already beginning to stop. So you will not need stitches. Jenny will be glad of that."
Alonzo grinned,"Unlike my brother, I am not accident prone."
Jemima watched the three still feeling out of place and questioning if she had made the right choice in going with them. She was happy to make sure Panthera didn't do anything mean to Alonzo, Munkustrap, or Noilly Pratt, however.
"Oi'm tellin' ya mate. We need ta move this 'ere. Then we'll 'ave a better shot of gettin' ta 'em."
Munkustrap didn't contemplate long on Jerrie's statement. From where they stood, it looked like the only way to get to the trapped cats. Her bright round eyes drifted to the silver tabby, as they had often been doing that night. With an alarmed expression, she yelled after Munkustrap already running towards him. There were some loose objects being held up by the piece that Munkustrap was trying to move. Everything happened so fast after that. Munk had heard Jemima's cries just as he moved the bigger chunk out of the way. He did take an uneasy step back, naturally looking up. Jerrie dove out of the way, as the loose and large pieces came tumbling down. Munk felt himself being pushed out of the way and landing hard on his side. He rolled back onto his feet quickly and his head snapped forward. All that was in front of him was a new pile of rubble. He grabbed the paw beside him and turned expecting to see Jemima safe by his side. Instead, Mungojerrie stood there, concern on his face. "Jemima?"
Jerrie's eyes drifted to the rubble,"Munkustrap-"
"No." He pushed Jerrie out of the way, dropped to his knees and started grabbing at whatever he could. "No! Come on Jemima."
Jerrie gaped at him. Munkustrap dug at the rubble with such desperation in his eyes. Even his paws were getting dirty and starting to bleed in his near frantic state. Once Noilly finished wrapping up Alonzo's paw, he stood beside Jerrie. It was the panic rising in Munkustrap's face that caught them all off-guard. But he hadn't heard Jemima's voice underneath at all, which set off warning bells for him. Patting Jerrie on the back he joined Munkustrap in clearing the new pile, soon followed by Mungojerrie. Plato and Victor also abandoned their spots, to help dig out Jemima. Enough rocks and metal were cleared away, and Munk saw one of Jemima's paws poking out, but it wasn't moving. The silver tabby opened his mouth and said the word 'no', yet no actual sound was audible. With help from the others they got the big block removed from atop Jemima's motionless body. The shock upon viewing her that way wore off after a few seconds time. Munkustrap leaned forward, carefully moved his paws underneath her and lifted her up. He was mindful of her body and any injuries she might have had. Munk, also, tenderly moved her head to rest comfortably against his shoulder. They watched him head straight to Noilly Pratt. Alonzo whistled to regain the boys attention.
"We've still got three more trapped. Move it." He was also concerned, that none of those underneath had spoken since those new pieces fell down. They all worked just as hard and quickly, not wanting a repeat of what had just happened and now seeing the real danger that the others were in. Munkustrap refused to let go of Jemima, which only made Noilly Pratt's job harder. When he gave her an expectant look, Noilly's lips twitched.
"I am sorry Munkustrap, this goes beyond my abilities. All I can assume is that she got the wind knocked out of her. Once she regains consciousness I'll be able to do a better analysis of her injuries." At Munkustrap's sad look, Noilly put her paw on his arm,"She is alive, Munkus. Take comfort in that."
Panthera softly padded her way over to them. She felt oddly like she was suddenly invading Munkustrap's territory. She was happy for the excitement and knew the added bits were going to make the rescue seem that much more dramatic, but she didn't want Jemima to die. "She'll be okay Munkus, you'll see."
Munkustrap didn't say anything, but Panthera's words rand hollow in his ears. "You should let me or Noilly take a look at that side of yours."
At his glare, Panthera didn't risk saying any more and back away from them. Noilly accepted Munk's refusal to get treated, though warned him that Jenny wouldn't take no for an answer. Panthera glared at Noilly and how quickly Noilly had adapted to being a nurse and how much respect others seemed to have for her.
"Hey, hey! I think we found them." Alonzo shouted.
The toms did see a furry patch, and they reached for the last bits of wreckage that lay atop. Once they had, they saw the three cats laying there, all unconscious. A cream, rust and brown calico laid on top of what appeared to be a brown and white ragamuffin queen, and a brown and white tabby ragamuffin tom. Mungojerrie bent down to check the calico's pulse, but he was no healer. Carefully, he picked up the lighter tom off of the queen and into his own arms. "You got him Jerrie?"
He nodded,"Panthera, we need your help."
She moved swiftly, checking first the toms pulse. "He's alive."
Plato, Victor and Alonzo were by the two Ragamuffin's, who also had pulses. The queen was the first to stir awake, grateful that she was no longer in the wreckage and was being carried by a tom. Two other toms were carrying her brother.
"Glad to see one of you is awake. How are you feeling?"
"Mostly...relieved. So, they're both not awake? But they are still alive?"
"Your brother is still unconscious and the other tom, the one who talked pretty much nonstop...? He's alive too, but also out of it."
"He can be annoying, but he's alright. He tried to save me, to save us both. He saw my brother and I exploring the site, saw it come tumbling down on us and he threw his body on top."
"Seriously?" Jerrie looked at the little guy in his arms, smirking. "Wha's 'is name? Yer's 'n yer brotheh's?"
"I'm afraid I never got his name, but my brother is called Merinque and mine is Melonesse."
"I'm Alonzo, and this is Victor. The tom carrying you right now is Plato. Mungojerrie is carrying your talkative friend. The silver tabby is Munkustrap and Jemima is in his arms."
"My name is Panthera and the Himalayan over there is Noilly Pratt. How's he looking?"
Noilly stood next to Jerrie, her paw still on the calico's wrist. "His vital's appear normal. But I am a little worried about his pulse. It's racing above normal for a tom of his size."
"Noill-Noilly!" She turned immediately at the urging of Munkustrap.
Jemima stirred in Munk's arms and finally opened her eyes to see Munk and Noilly looking down on her in concern. "Ow...what happened?"
"You, you pushed me out of the way of falling debris, and got trapped. I...We were worried about you."
Jemima did catch his slip up, but didn't want to read too much into it. Still, she was enjoying the Silver tabbies arms around her. Cuddling closer to him under the guise of feeling faint, she started to hide herself in his chest.
"Sorry Jemima, but you can't hide yet or go back to sleep. I need to examine you."
Jemima nodded silently. Noilly began her examination and Panthera was watching what the Himalayan was doing. However, her thoughts were no where near nursing. She didn't care to be a nurse, it was just a punishment that she had to serve. In the end, she heard all the information she needed, Jemima had suffered a concussion.
~^-^~
Though the evening was beginning to die down, they were all still savoring the dance. A small circle had formed around Gus Jr and Victoria. She had spun out and when she came back into his arms, he dipped her down. Smiling up at him, she gently traced the outline of Juniors features. Bringing her back up against his chest, their dance transitioned into something slower. "Why have you hid your dancing talent for so long?"
"I assure you, my lady, if it seems like my dancing skills are good, then it's thanks to you. You bring out the best in me. Without you I'd be nobody."
At her forgotten dance steps and shocked face, Asparagus realized how romantic that probably sounded. "I uhhh....Just want to thank you for the past few months. I can't imagine my life without your insights or your friendship."
Victoria's face turned into a bright smile. Standing on her tippy-toes, she gave him a soft kiss on his cheek. Gus Jr. instantly flushed and he began to stutter. Giggling, Victoria twirled a finger in his shoulder fur. "You're welcome Gus Jr. I am also honored to be friends with you."
The pair, got through the awkward moment and started their slow dance again. In the corner, Demeter sat with Gilbert laughing over a witty comment the telepath had made. He did feel self conscious when her paw landed on his thigh. She had been making small gestures ever since she got him to go to the ball with her. She was hitting on him. Experience from Gllen's past identified it as that. Acting dumb to her advances had not stopped her from making them. He was genuinely enjoying her company, but was aware that it was not mutual. Catching Gilbert off guard, Demeter pressed her lips to his. Too stunned to pull back, he ended up kissing her back. After some time, the two pulled away from each other. Demeter gazed up at Gilbert with a shy smile. When he said nothing, she moved to kiss him again. Tensing, he backed away, shaking his head,"Stop."
"What? But-You can't tell me that you don't want me. You kissed me back."
"I know! I know..." Gilbert kept his distance,"You're upset about Rumpus moving on, you're vulnerable. It's not fair to you, as I'd be taking advantage of you. And you need a rebound in order to move on from Rumpus yourself. That's not fair to me. I..." He sighed,"I think I should go."
Demeter frowned as she watched him go. She felt a shaky paw on her shoulder and turned to see Gus and Deuteronomy there. Without either sister there to give her support, she found comfort with the leaders. She was still sitting with them when the volunteer group got back. Munkustrap still carried Jemima, with Noilly by his side. Panthera ignored her ban from the ball an went to sit with her friends, eager to enjoy the last bit of the ball. Quaxo and Teazer joined Jerrie and the unconscious tom. He finally opened his green eyes, and spazzed.
"Oh no! Don't tell meh. I've died. I don't know you lot. Is this a 'ell dimension. No, no, no..."
"Calm down," Quaxo chuckled.
"Ya speck'els," Teazer grinned.
"Yer among friends." He gave Jerrie a skeptical look. "I'm not trapped anymore, am I?...Melonesse?"
"Over here." She called, Plato, Munkustrap, Noilly Victor and Alonzo (and Merinque), and Jenny were surrounding her.
"Oh thank god."
"So wha's yer name?"
"Quince."
"Jerrie." Jenny commanded,"He appears fine, but I still want to examine him. Along with Melonesse, Merinque, and Jemima."
"Alroight."
Munk, Plato, Victor, Noilly, Jenny and Jerrie headed to the infirmary with the four injuried. Vimala and Tumble walked to the side having had enough drama for one night.
"Ah, Admetus. Good evening." He mumbled a greeting.
"Is there something wrong Guardian?"
"Yes, Vimala."
Tumble looked around, figuring out what was amiss. "Where's Krystalle? Didn't you two come to the ball together?"
He looked away,"She ran off. We had just gotten done enjoying a meal and I asked her for another dance. It was great. Maybe it was too good to be true. But there was a perfect moment and I kissed her. I must have come on too strong, because she withdrew after that and then ran off."
"I'm sorry Guardian." Getting silent approval from Tumble, Vimala and Tumble dragged Admetus back on to the dance floor, the trio dancing as one. The commotion didn't die after that. Jagger happened to bump into Silberia while on the dance floor. Never one to ignore a pretty queen, especially one as gorgeous as Silberia, he winked at her. "Perhaps I can steal you away from Skimble for the next dance, hot stuff?"
She slid her body down his side giving him a flirtatious wink of her own. "I'm sure that could be arranged."
Skimble laughed in amusement seeing their flirting as empty promises. Playful, but ultimately harmless. Bombalurina had gotten so mad at Silberia cutting in on her tom once again, that all she saw was red. She pushed Jagger aside and slapped Silberia across her face. "How dare you! What? Munkustrap and now Skimbleshanks aren't enough for you? You have to go through all the toms in the yard? You slut!"
Silberia had hit her boiling point with Bomba's attitude, actions and accusations and pushed back. When Bomba hit the ground, she pounced on top. Her claws came out and she was ready to tear into Bomba, her own anger clouding her judgement. Skimble did pull her off in time, and Admetus hooked his arm around Bomba's waist to keep her from flying at Silberia in a fit of rage. Alonzo had positioned himself between the two queens, just in case.
"Never a dull moment, huh Deut?"
The jolly leader chuckled at Gus,"Alonzo, Skimbleshanks and Admetus my boy, could you please escort these ladies away from the center. I will take care of their problem after the ball."
"Of course, Leader."
As soon as that small group left, Jenny returned. Eventually, Plato also returned, with Melonesse crying in his arms. After talking with Deuteronomy, Tugger pulled Jenny into his arms. She was down and upset, and he knew it. Victor helped Melonesse's brother, Merinque, into the center. He was finally awake, but was having trouble walking.
"Merrie! I'm so sorry. It's all my fault."
"Shhh, Mellie." As Victor helped him walk towards his sister he reached out and she grabbed his offered paw. "It's not your fault, Mellie. It was an accident. I'm sorry as well."
Old Deuteronomy came up behind the tom and placed a comforting paw on his shoulder,"I am sorry my children. I know how upset Jenny is, but she tells me you're bleeding internally and that there is nothing she can do for you." He offered his paw to Melonesse, who took it. "My thoughts are with you as well child. Paralyzed from the waist down, I don't even know what to say, dear. I do not know what kind of life you'll have here, but I know that you are most welcome to stay."
Merinque swallowed down a lump in his throat. He didn't have a lot of time left, but it was worth it; just to know that his sister had a place to go and would be cared for.
"It is time for the choice. My son, you can decline of course, but I would like it to be you."
"The choice?"
"I can send you to the heavyside layer. There you will be reborn for a chance at a new and happy life."
Merinque looked to Melonesse and the two siblings embraced. Saying their good-byes, Merinque gazed back at the Jellicle Leader. Deut gave him his paw,"Lean on me, son."
The jellilces crowded around Deut and Merrie to give him their own blessings. Tugger still had a hold of Jenny, knowing how torn up she felt about the two ragamuffin siblings. He bent down to kiss her, but she shrugged him off. "Jenny-"
"I like you Tugger, you're a good friend, but not now."
"Why not? Jenny you need someone and you can't deny what's between us."
"There's nothing between us, Tugger. Attraction and lust, that's all. You're not good for me Tugger, I'm not going down that road again."
Tugger hid his frown as he embraced Jenny from behind. He agreed with Jenny, at least on the outside. He wanted to keep an emotional distance, after she had essentially rejected him, but when she felt her silent sobs, he turned her around and she easily accept his comfort. He held her tightly as she cried against his chest.
- -- - --- -- -- -
Opening her eyes, Jemima rolled over onto her side. She was in her den, comfortably laying in her bed. Munkustrap was off to the side. He got rid of a dirty rag he had used on Jemima's forhead and now had a bowl of cold water in his paws. The black calico smiled in gratitude,"Thank you."
Taking the bowl she drank a large swig of water. "Well its the least I could do."
She nodded,"Who all knows you're here...helping me?"
Munk shrugged his shoulders,"No one, except for Jennyanydots."
Jemima laughed at that,"Can you just imagine how many secrets our healer knows about everyone in the tribe?"
Smiling, Munkustrap nuzzled her cheek,"Jenny doesn't judge others, besides she's always been discreet."
Jemima's eyes looked deep into Munk's, searching for any sign. Trying to gauge his reaction, looking for any indication that he might make a move. Instead, he sighed and stood up,"You need to get some rest. I'll leave you for now. I or Jenny, or even Noilly will check in on you in the morning."
Jemima watched Munkustrap walk to her door. Just before he left, she cleared her throat. He turned, looking at her in question.
"Would you stay here with me...please?"
There was a pause, before Munk gave her a smile and returned to her side. "Sure, Jemmie." The action was slow, but before long the two jellilces were holding paws, and staring into each others eyes, smiles widening and thumbs caressing the tops of their two paws.

Back to Year One
To Year One Fanart
